Making Parchment Muffin Liners

Folded parchment liners can give muffins a simple bakery-style appearance. They still need a muffin pan for support.

Shape the liners

  1. Use baking parchment rated for the recipe’s oven temperature—not wax paper. Cut roughly 5-inch squares for a standard muffin pan, adjusting for cup size.
  2. Press a square into each cup, creasing the sides. A clean glass or other suitably sized object can help shape it.
  3. A very light spray in the pan may help hold the liner temporarily; it is optional. Keep paper corners away from heating elements.
  4. Portion the batter as the recipe directs and bake in the supporting pan. Cool according to the recipe before peeling the liner away.

Cook’s note

Paper size and batter fill depend on the pan. Tall folded liners do not make it safe to overfill the cup, and parchment does not guarantee that every batter releases perfectly.
