A ripe but firm avocado half can be sliced, fanned, and rolled into a rose for toast or a composed plate. An avocado that is mushy or underripe is harder to shape.

Prepare and slice
- Wash the whole avocado under running water before cutting. Halve it safely on a stable board and remove the pit without striking a knife toward your hand.
- Peel one half and place it cut-side down. Slice crosswise into very thin, even slices, keeping them in their original order.
- Gently fan the slices into an overlapping ribbon. Work slowly so they slide rather than break.
- Starting at one end, coil the ribbon inward to form a rose. Use a thin spatula to lift it onto the plate.
Serve promptly
A little lemon or lime juice can slow surface browning but will not prevent it indefinitely. Keep the rose chilled if not serving immediately. If the slices break, simply fan them attractively; flavor matters more than a perfect shape.
