Carter Family Recipes

This appetizer is almost too simple to believe — cream cheese transformed into a smoky, savory-sweet crowd-pleaser. A barbecue rub creates a flavorful crust, while slow cooking gives the cream cheese a velvety texture inside. Finished with crisp bacon, fresh Jalapeños, and a drizzle of golden honey, this dish balances smoke, spice, salt, and sweetness in every bite. Perfect for game day, family gatherings, or any time you want “fire food” with almost no effort.

Ingredients

  • 1 block cream cheese (8 oz)
  • 2 Tablespoons barbecue rub
  • 4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 fresh Jalapeño, thinly sliced
  • 1–2 Tablespoons honey

Preparation

  1. Preheat your smoker, grill, oven, or air fryer to 250°F.
  2. Unwrap the cream cheese and place it on a sheet of foil or small cast-iron pan.
  3. Using a sharp knife, score the top of the cream cheese in a crosshatch pattern.
  4. Season all sides generously with the barbecue rub, pressing it into the surface.
  5. Cook for 1 1/2 hours, until the outside forms a flavorful crust and the inside softens.
  6. Remove from heat and top with crumbled bacon, sliced Jalapeños, and a drizzle of honey.
  7. Serve warm with crackers, toasted bread, or fresh vegetables.
