Ingredients:
- 2 slices of your favorite bread
- Butter (optional)
Preparation
- Preheat the Pan: Set your Control Freak to medium-low, roughly 275–325°F (135–160°C).
- Place the cast-iron pan on the surface and allow it to heat evenly for 3–5 minutes. You want the pan hot but not smoking.
- Prepare the Bread: If using butter, spread a thin layer on one side of each slice. Butter adds flavor and helps achieve a golden crust.
- Toast the First Side: Place the bread butter side down in the pan.
- Cook for 2–4 minutes, keeping an eye on the color. You want golden brown, not burnt.
- Toast the Other Side: Flip the bread and toast the second side for 1–3 minutes. Usually, the second side cooks faster because the pan is already hot.
- Optional Step: For extra even browning, you can cover the pan briefly for 30–60 seconds while toasting the second side. This traps heat and warms the bread through.
- Serve Immediately: Remove toast from the pan and enjoy. If you like, add a light pat of butter or your favorite spread.
Cooks Notes
- Avoid high heat—cast iron + induction can go from golden to black in seconds.
- If your bread is very thick, lower the heat slightly and toast longer for even browning.
- The Control Freak lets you be precise; stick to the 275–325°F range for reliable results.
