Some shallow furniture dents in pile carpet respond to gentle brushing and a little moisture, but fiber type and backing determine which treatment is appropriate.

Start dry

Move the furniture and gently lift the pile with a soft brush or your fingers. Vacuum only when the carpet is dry. Check the carpet manufacturer’s care advice before applying moisture or heat.

Use moisture cautiously

The earlier ice-cube tip is not suitable for every carpet. If the manufacturer permits a small water treatment, test an inconspicuous area, avoid saturating the backing, blot thoroughly, and let it dry before vacuuming. Do not vacuum water or wet carpet with a vacuum designed only for dry use.

Know when to stop

Wool, delicate fibers, damaged backing, and valuable rugs may need professional care. Deep or permanent crushing may not recover. Furniture cups and occasional repositioning can reduce future dents.
