Ingredients

  • 8 oz room temperature cream cheese
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 12 oz strong brewed coffee, cooled to room temperature
  • 3 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • Galletas Marías (about 2 packages)
  • 1/2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee

Procedure

  1. Prepare the Coffee Mixture: In a shallow dish, combine the cooled strong coffee with 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp instant coffee. Stir until well blended. Set aside.
  2. Make the Creamy Filling: In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and 1/4 tsp cinnamon. Beat until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Whip the Cream: In a separate bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream until it forms stiff peaks.
  5. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture, a little at a time, until fully incorporated and fluffy.
  6. Assemble the Carlota: Dip the Galletas Marías briefly into the coffee mixture, ensuring they’re soaked but not too soggy.
  7. Layer the soaked cookies in a 9×13-inch dish or a deep round dish to create the base.
  8. Spread a layer of the cream mixture over the cookies, smoothing it out evenly.
  9. Repeat layers of soaked cookies and cream mixture until you run out of ingredients, finishing with a layer of cream on top.
  10. Decorate: Sift the cocoa powder over the top layer of cream for a polished finish. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or instant coffee granules for extra flair.
  11. Chill and Set: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
  12. Serve: Slice into squares or wedges, and serve chilled. Enjoy the rich coffee and creamy layers of this decadent Carlota de Café!
