Avocado crema is a smooth, tangy, and velvety sauce made from ripe avocados, fresh lime juice, and creamy dairy or yogurt. Its lush texture and bright flavor make it a perfect accompaniment for tacos, grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or dishes like Pastel Azteca. This version balances creaminess with a hint of citrus and a touch of garlic for depth.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 1/2 cup Mexican crema or sour cream
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste)
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1–2 Tablespoons water (optional, for thinning)

Preparation

  1. Combine the avocado, Mexican crema (or sour cream), lime juice, garlic, salt, and cilantro in a blender or food processor.
  2. Blend until completely smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
  3. Adjust the consistency with water, adding 1 Tablespoon at a time until the crema is silky and spoonable.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more lime juice or salt if desired.
  5. Serve immediately, or cover tightly and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
