This method takes standard canned cinnamon rolls and turns them into rich, bakery-style pastries with minimal effort. By spacing the rolls apart and pouring heavy cream over them before baking, the cream pools between the rolls and steams them from the outside in. The result is cinnamon rolls that are exceptionally soft, moist, and tender—almost custardy at the edges—without becoming soggy. Finished with the included icing while still warm, they taste far more indulgent than their shortcut origins suggest.
Ingredients
- 1 can refrigerated cinnamon rolls (regular size, with icing)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Preparation
- Preheat the oven: Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Arrange the rolls: Place the cinnamon rolls in an 11×7–inch baking dish, spacing them evenly so there is room between each roll.
- Add the cream: Pour 1/2 cup heavy cream evenly over the rolls, allowing the excess to pool in the open spaces of the dish.
- Bake: Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed and just set. The centers should be soft, not dry.
- Ice and finish: Remove from the oven and let cool for 2–3 minutes. Spread the icing from the can over the warm rolls so it melts into the surface.
- Serve: Serve warm for the softest texture and richest flavor.
Cook’s Notes
- This method works best with regular-sized cinnamon rolls, not jumbo.
- For a slightly richer finish, warm the icing briefly before spreading.
- The rolls will appear lighter in color than standard baked rolls but will finish setting as they cool.
