There’s a sweet little charm to these flaky, cream-filled pastries—just the kind of treat many of us remember serving for holiday brunches, Sunday coffees, or cozy mornings when something warm and homemade felt just right.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 Tablespoon all-purpose flour, optional, for a firmer filling
- 1 egg, for egg wash
- 2–3 Tablespoons fruit preserves, optional
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar, optional
- 1–2 teaspoons milk, optional, for glaze
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unfold the thawed puff pastry and cut into 12 equal squares. Arrange on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, granulated sugar, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and optional flour until smooth.
- Place about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese filling in the center of each square. If using fruit preserves, place a small dollop on top.
- Fold the corners inward slightly or leave open. Brush the edges with beaten egg.
- Bake 15–18 minutes, until puffed and lightly golden. Cool slightly.
- For the glaze, mix powdered sugar with milk and drizzle over warm pastries if desired.
