Thai Iced Tea is a bold and refreshing beverage known for its deep amber color and luxurious sweetness. Traditionally made with strong brewed tea and sweetened condensed milk, it delivers a smooth, creamy contrast to spicy Thai dishes. The robust tea base balances beautifully with the rich milk, while ice keeps it crisp and cooling. Served in tall glasses, this classic drink feels both comforting and indulgent — a simple treat that tastes like dessert in a glass.

Ingredients

  • 2 oolong tea bags or 2 servings loose oolong tea
  • 12 ounces hot water
  • Ice
  • 4 ounces sweetened condensed milk

Preparation

  1. Place the tea bags or loose tea in a heatproof bowl or pitcher.
  2. Heat at least 16 ounces of water using a kettle on a delicate or low-temperature setting (just below boiling).
  3. Pour 12 ounces of the hot water over the tea. Steep for 10–15 minutes for a strong brew.
  4. Strain the tea and allow it to cool to room temperature.
  5. Fill two tall glasses with ice.
  6. Pour 6 ounces of the cooled tea into each glass.
  7. Add 2 ounces of sweetened condensed milk to each glass.
  8. Stir well to combine and serve immediately.

Makes: 2 servings (8 ounces each)

Cook’s Notes

  • For a stronger flavor and deeper color, steep closer to 15 minutes.
  • If desired, chill the brewed tea in the refrigerator before serving.
  • Traditional Thai tea often uses a specific Thai tea blend, which may include spices and food coloring for its signature orange hue.

Serving Suggestions

Serve alongside spicy curry, Pad Thai, or grilled satay. It also pairs beautifully with coconut-based desserts or mango sticky rice for a complete Thai-inspired meal experience.
