This hearty, flavorful one-pan dish combines tender shrimp, smoky bacon, savory sausage, and caramelized cabbage in a medley of perfectly balanced spices. The sweetness of sautéed onions and the tang of apple cider vinegar complement the richness of the proteins, while a touch of crushed red pepper adds just the right amount of heat. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal or a comforting weekend dinner, this dish is as satisfying as it is easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon seafood seasoning (e.g., Old Bay or your favorite blend)
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1/2 lb smoked sausage (e.g., andouille or kielbasa), sliced into rounds
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 small head of cabbage, thinly sliced

Procedure

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Toss the shrimp with olive oil and seafood seasoning until evenly coated. Set aside to marinate while you prep the other ingredients.
  2. Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy.
  3. Remove the bacon, chop into bite-sized pieces, and set aside. Leave the bacon grease in the skillet.
  4. Brown the Sausage: In the same skillet, add the sausage slices and cook until browned on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
  5. Remove and set aside with the bacon.
  6. Cook the Shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for about 3 minutes per side, or until they turn pink and curl into a “C” shape.
  7. Remove and set aside.
  8. Sauté the Onions and Spices: Add 1 Tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Stir in the onions, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes.
  9. Cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the onions soften and become slightly golden
  10. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
  11. Add Cabbage and Vinegar: Add the remaining 1 Tablespoon of butter and the apple cider vinegar to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  12. Add the sliced cabbage, tossing well to coat in the spices and juices.
  13. Cook for about 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
  14. Combine and Serve: Stir the bacon, sausage, and shrimp back into the skillet, mixing well with the cabbage.
  15. Cook for 2-3 more minutes to heat through and allow the flavors to meld.

Serve warm and enjoy this comforting, flavorful dish as a standalone meal or alongside crusty bread or rice.
